One of the prototypes I worked on at Digital Objectives was a Newton version of the classic Scrabble board game. I thought the Newton would be the perfect platform for this type of game. It is small and portable, which Scrabble boards are not, and there would be no letter tiles to lose.

The touch-screen interface is also decidedly superior to the control pad on the Game Boy version. And the Newton’s monochrome screen is perfectly adequate for playing Scrabble.

Still, there were a number of challenges to be met, the most important of which was making the large Scrabble board usable on a 3" X 4" screen.
